Azema Exotic Bistro – French/Asian Fusion - $$ - **Top Choice** This excellent, but unusual exotic French restaurant is so good we came back twice. Its menu is inspired from the owner’s 10 years in the Far East.
Paul Jean Azema, the owner, has an eccentric personality that is evident through all facets of the restaurant. Look around and you will notice captivating art and unusual self-portraits hanging from the walls. As for the menu, Azema’s creativity is impressive - he imaginatively fuses classic dishes from Argentina to Vietnam and a whole host of countries in-between. La Cabrera – Steakhouse or ‘Parrilla’ - $$ - **Top Choice**
For me, La Cabrera is the best ‘parrilla’ in Buenos Aires. We had fabulous steaks served with a plethora of delicious accompaniments. I still long for the taste of their melt-in-the-mouth steaks rolled in various fragrant herbs.

Diablada – Parrilla (Steakhouse) - $
For a great value ‘parrilla’ try the Diablada. This was the first Buenos Aires restaurant I brought my parents too when they visited us. It was the perfect introduction to Argentinean dining. The steaks were fabulous and we found the atmosphere really warm and welcoming. Address Venezuela 1402, Congreso Phone 4381-4766/8677 Open Lunch and Dinner
Campo dei Fiori - Italian - $
The Argentineans love pasta and this great value pasta restaurant was so popular, they were lining up in the street! Our Argentinean friends recommended this restaurant for its excellent fresh pasta, cannelloni and lasagna. How did we know it was fresh? We watched three burly chefs pounding and rolling the pasta right in the middle of the restaurant. And what if your partner won’t settle for anything less than steak (who would blame them in Argentina)? They will bring you a really good steak from the Diablada ‘parrilla’ next door. Plaza Mayor - Spanish/Fish - $ Daytime $$ Evening
If you fancy a change from steak, then try this Spanish influenced restaurant specializing in fish and seafood. With a menu largely dominated by the creatures from the sea it’s where we came for a break from good old beef. I loved the paella - it was great value and the seafood incredibly fresh. This regenerated port is a great setting for an evening meal followed by a beautiful stroll. Sadly we found the restaurants to be overpriced and comparatively poor quality, so we tended to dine elsewhere and then come to Puerto Madero for a walk along the port. Here we could savor the evening views from the terrace whilst sipping a few drinks and watching the world go by.

Café San Juan – Local Buenos Aires Cuisine ‘Porteño’ - $/$$
Popping down to San Telmo for the delightful Sunday Market? Then make sure you visit the excellent Café San Juan. This is a small family run restaurant that was bustling, simple and unsophisticated. The portions they served us were huge and the food excellent, well priced and lovingly prepared. Serving a modern take on traditional local ‘dishes’ it was very popular with the ‘porteños’ themselves - which is always a good sign. La Bourgogne, Alvear Palace Hotel – French - $$$ - **Top Choice**
And finally, I have left the best for last. For the finest Buenos Aires restaurant in all of Argentina, dine at La Bourgogne. This Buenos Aires restaurant is top of our list. It’s set in the luxurious Alvear Palace hotel in the city’s most exclusive district. We came for their three course set lunch, which includes a glass of wine. I’ve never had such attentive service; we were served with seven mouth-watering courses and almost endless wine - what a wonderfully indulgent treat!
