Map of Buenos Aires

Having a handy map of Buenos Aires tucked away in your pocket is essential when exploring Argentina’s capital.

In Buenos Aires we picked up a number of tourist maps all around the city. The quality of these maps varied hugely. Each was laid out on the page differently with North facing various different directions! Some were even too big to handle and others missed off important streets.

A concise pocket sized tourist map

One handy map of Buenos Aires stood out above the rest. It was concise, accurate, pocket sized and really easy to use.

This map was supplied with a ‘tango guide’ available at tango nights and some tourist information centers.

Why is a pocket-sized map of Buenos Aires essential?

I would personally recommend every tourist in Buenos Aires to carry a small pocket sized map at all times. It’s an invaluable resource that you will refer to time and again. Listed here are some of the situations where a pocket map is really useful:

- While using a taxi
On more than one occasion having a pocket sized map whilst in a taxi was really useful as we were able to show the driver exactly where we wanted to go. It was also a useful reference to make sure that we weren’t taking the “special scenic route” for tourists.

- When out at night
Most good guidebooks contain concise maps that are perfectly adequate for most tourists’ needs. However we didn’t always find it practical to carry a guidebook, especially when we were dining at restaurants or out dancing tango.

- When out on the streets
Constantly opening a bag containing cameras, passports and travelers checks to find a map in a bulky guidebook exposes your valuables to potential pick pockets and thieves. Using a small map contained in a pocket will attract less attention and doesn’t expose your most valuable items.
